Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday criticized the Congress-National Conference (NC) alliance after the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly passed a resolution demanding the restoration of Article 370. Modi accused the alliance of conspiring against the Union Territory and reaffirmed that the country would not accept any move to reinstate the provision.
Speaking at a rally in Dhule, Maharashtra, PM Modi condemned the actions of Congress and its allies. “As soon as the Congress and INDI alliance got the opportunity to form a government in Jammu and Kashmir, they began their conspiracies against the region,” Modi said. He referred to the resolution passed in the J&K assembly earlier in the week, which called for the restoration of Article 370, a provision that granted special status to the region until it was revoked by the Centre in August 2019.

The resolution, which was passed by a voice vote in the assembly on Wednesday, was met with strong opposition from BJP lawmakers, who were reportedly evicted from the assembly for protesting the motion.
Modi also criticized the actions of J&K assembly members who displayed banners supporting Article 370 during the session. “When BJP MLAs protested against this with all their might, they were thrown out of the assembly. Will the country accept this? The truth about Congress and its allies must be understood by the entire nation,” the Prime Minister remarked.
He emphasized that the restoration of Article 370 would not be allowed under his leadership. “As long as Modi is here, Congress will not be able to do anything in Kashmir. Only Babasaheb Ambedkar’s Constitution will prevail there. No power can bring back Article 370,” he declared.
The National Conference’s manifesto for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections included promises to restore the region’s special status and its statehood. Modi, however, contended that the Congress-led alliance was working against the Constitution of India, particularly the provisions that protect the rights of Dalits and other marginalized communities.”
In the J&K Assembly, Congress and its allies tried to re-implement Article 370. These forces want to undermine Babasaheb Ambedkar’s Constitution in Kashmir, jeopardizing the rights of Dalits and backward communities,” Modi said. He further added that by abrogating Article 370, he had ensured that Ambedkar’s Constitution was implemented in the region, calling it his “biggest tribute” to the architect of India’s Constitution.
The ongoing debate around Article 370 continues to be a point of contention in Jammu and Kashmir’s political landscape, with the BJP maintaining that its revocation was a step toward integrating the region fully into India, while opposition parties, including the Congress and National Conference, advocate for its restoration.
