On Saturday, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal raised serious concerns about the quality of drinking water in Delhi, specifically in areas like Sagarpur and Dwarka. In a bold statement, she warned Chief Minister Atishi to rectify the water supply issues within 15 days or face further protests.
Maliwal symbolically demonstrated her claims by bringing a bottle of “black” contaminated water to the Chief Minister’s residence. “I visited a home where black water was being supplied. I collected a sample and brought it here. Can Delhi drink this?” she questioned, expressing outrage at the government’s inaction.
She emphasized that the bottle was merely a sample of the broader pollution crisis in the capital. “Since 2015, we’ve been promised improvements for the next year. This is unacceptable. If the water supply isn’t fixed in 15 days, I will bring a tanker full of this water,” Maliwal stated. She further suggested that Atishi should experience the water firsthand, saying, “She can bathe or drink it to purify her sins.”
Maliwal criticized Atishi for focusing on press conferences instead of addressing pressing issues, especially with major festivals like Chhath Puja and Govardhan Puja approaching. “Who can survive on this water?” she lamented.
In response, AAP MLA Vinay Mishra, now Vice Chairman of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), accused the BJP of sabotaging the agency’s functions. He promised to work diligently on the city’s water and sewer challenges. “The BJP has interfered across various departments, crippling essential services and hindering our progress. However, with Arvind Kejriwal back, we are committed to resolving these issues swiftly,” Mishra asserted.
The situation highlights ongoing concerns over Delhi’s water quality and governance as residents await timely solutions.
