A stampede occurred at Bandra Terminus in Mumbai early Sunday morning, injuring at least nine people as passengers hurried to board the Bandra-Gorakhpur Express (Train 22921). The incident took place at 5:56 AM on platform number one amid the Diwali holiday rush.
According to a civic official from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, all injured individuals were promptly taken to Bhabha Hospital for treatment. The injured have been identified as Shabhir Abdul Rehman (40), Parmeshwar Sukhdar Gupta (28), Ravindra Harihar Chuma (30), Ramsevak Ravindra Prasad Prajapati (29), Sanjay Tilakram Kangay (27), Divyanshu Yogendra Yadav (18), Mohammad Shareef Shaikh (25), Indrajith Sahani (19), and Noor Mohammad Shaikh (18).
Videos of the chaotic scene circulated on social media, showing a crowd of passengers scrambling to board the train. Footage captured blood on the platform and rescue efforts by railway police and other passengers.
In one video, a railway officer was seen carrying an injured passenger on his shoulder. As of now, the Western Railway has not released an official statement, and spokesperson Vineet Abhishek was unavailable for comment.
Despite the unfortunate incident, the Antyodaya Express departed from Bandra Terminus on schedule.
