Ahead of the upcoming BRICS summit, Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized that the BRICS group is not anti-Western, but rather a significant contributor to global economic growth. He stated that BRICS, which comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and recently added members Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the UAE, is poised to outpace Western nations in economic development.
“BRICS was never intended to be against anyone. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also articulated that BRICS is not an anti-Western group, but a non-Western one,” Putin remarked, highlighting the cooperative nature of the alliance.
The BRICS summit will take place in Kazan from October 22-24, and Putin aims to reinforce the group’s influence in global politics and trade. On the ongoing Ukraine conflict, he reiterated Russia’s commitment to a peaceful resolution, asserting, “It was not us who stopped the negotiations, but the Ukrainian side.” He acknowledged PM Modi’s consistent emphasis on the issue during their discussions and expressed gratitude for his concerns.
In response to inquiries about potential incentives for filmmaking within BRICS nations, Putin noted the popularity of Indian cinema in Russia, mentioning, “We have a dedicated TV channel for Indian films and host the BRICS film festival. If Indian filmmakers are interested, we can explore ways to promote their work in Russia.”
Additionally, he highlighted the pharmaceutical sector as another area ripe for collaboration, expressing his eagerness to discuss potential partnerships with PM Modi.
