The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security has launched an investigation following a series of bomb threats that affected ten flights in less than 48 hours, prompting serious security measures. Notably, one flight was diverted to a remote airport in Canada as a precaution.
On Tuesday, multiple threats were issued from an unverified account on X (formerly Twitter), impacting seven flights, including one destined for the United States. Air India Flight AI 127, traveling from Delhi to Chicago, was diverted to Iqaluit Airport in Canada after receiving a security threat shortly after its 3 AM departure.
Air India stated, “The aircraft and passengers are being re-screened as per the laid-down security protocol. We have activated agencies at the airport to assist passengers until their journeys can resume.”
IndiGo Flight 6E 98, flying from Dammam in Saudi Arabia to Lucknow, was forced to make an emergency landing in Jaipur due to the bomb threat. An IndiGo spokesperson confirmed, “The safety and security of our passengers and crew is our highest priority, and we are working closely with the relevant authorities.”
Another affected flight was Air India Express IX 765, which made an emergency landing in Ayodhya around 2 PM. Additional threats were reported for Akasa Air flights from Bagdogra to Bengaluru and an Alliance Air flight from Amritsar to Delhi, among others.
This alarming incident follows similar threats on Monday when three international flights—two operated by IndiGo and one by Air India—received bomb threats from Mumbai, which were later determined to be hoaxes. Notably, Air India Flight AI 119, scheduled from Mumbai to New York’s JFK Airport, made an emergency landing in New Delhi in response to the threat.
Authorities are continuing their investigations to ensure the safety of air travel and identify the source of the threats.
