NCP Leader Baba Siddique Shot Dead in Mumbai; Police Recover Weapon

Date:

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Baba Siddique was tragically shot dead on Saturday night by three unidentified attackers in Mumbai. The incident occurred outside his MLA son Zeeshan Siddique’s office near Colgate Ground in Nirmal Nagar, where the assailants fired two to three rounds at him. Despite being rushed to Lilavati Hospital, Siddique succumbed to his injuries.

Mumbai Police have confirmed the recovery of the 9.9mm pistol used in the murder. Two suspects have already been arrested, while efforts continue to apprehend the third assailant, who is currently absconding. Additional CP Paramjit Singh Dahiya stated, “The incident took place around 9:30 pm. The Crime Branch is investigating the matter.”

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed his sorrow over the incident, highlighting that the accused are from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. Describing the incident as “extremely unfortunate,” CM Shinde informed the media that we have directed the Mumbai Police to take strict measures against those who disrupt law and order,” Shinde stated during a press conference in Thane.

The killing of Baba Siddique has raised concerns among opposition leaders, who are alleging a complete breakdown of law and order in Maharashtra.

About Baba Siddique

Baba Siddique had recently joined the NCP, led by Ajit Pawar, after resigning from the Congress party earlier this year. He served as a three-time MLA for the Bandra West assembly constituency but lost the 2014 Maharashtra assembly elections to BJP candidate Ashish Shelar. He was a Municipal Corporator for two consecutive terms from 1992 to 1997. During the early 2000s, Siddique held several key positions in the Congress-NCP government, including Minister of State for Food & Civil Supplies, Labour, FDA, and Consumer Protection.

Bollywood actors Sanjay Dutt and Shilpa Shetty visited Lilavati Hospital to meet Baba Siddique’s family in this difficult time.

On the other hand NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar expressed his regret over the incident, stating, “The firing on Baba Siddique is regrettable and reflects the state’s collapsed law and order situation. There is a need for not just investigation but also accountability from the government. My heartfelt condolences to Baba Siddique’s family.”

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi has expressed her shock at the tragic killing of NCP leader Baba Siddique. In a post on X, she conveyed her condolences to Siddique’s son, Zeeshan Siddique, stating, “I am shocked to hear about Shri Baba Siddique being shot dead. My condolences to Zeeshan Siddique, wishing him and his family lots of strength in their toughest moment.”

Chaturvedi criticized the deteriorating law and order situation in the city, labeling it as “unacceptable.” She urged for a thorough investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to address the alarming rise in violence. Her remarks reflect a growing concern among political leaders regarding safety and security in Mumbai following this shocking incident.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has pledged decisive action against those responsible for the killing of former State Minister and NCP leader Baba Siddique, who was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Mumbai on Saturday evening.
