9 Laborers Die as Soil Caves at a Construction Site in Gujarat’s Mehsana

Date:

Nine laborers lost their lives when loose soil collapsed at a factory construction site in Jasalpur village, Kadi taluka, Mehsana, around noon. The workers were digging a pit when the soil gave way, trapping ten of them. Fortunately, one laborer managed to escape as he was positioned higher up.

Mehsana Superintendent of Police Tarun Duggal confirmed that the rescue operation has concluded and that police will file a complaint after the post-mortem examinations of the deceased are conducted later today. All the workers were reportedly from Dahod, Gujarat.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow over the tragedy, announcing an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from the PM National Relief Fund for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured. “The accident caused by the collapse in Mehsana is extremely tragic. My deepest condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured,” Modi stated on the micro-blogging site X.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also expressed his condolences and announced financial assistance of ₹4 lakh from the CM Relief Fund for each deceased worker’s family, along with ₹50,000 for those injured in the incident. The local administration is actively working to provide all possible support to the affected families.
