Noel Tata Appointed Chairman of Tata Trusts, Succeeding Ratan Tata

Date:

Noel Tata, half-brother of Ratan Tata, has been appointed Chairman of Tata Trusts following a board meeting held in Mumbai today. Noel, who currently serves as Vice Chairman of Tata Steel and watchmaker Titan, steps into this pivotal role as the Tata Group continues to evolve.

His mother, Simone Tata, a French-Swiss Catholic and Ratan Tata’s stepmother, chairs several key companies including Trent, Voltas, Tata Investment Corporation, and Tata International.

Noel Tata has played an instrumental role in the growth of the Tata Group since joining in the early 2000s. His appointment as Chairman comes after a meeting of the Sir Ratan Tata Trust and the Dorabji Tata Trust, the two primary trusts overseeing Tata Sons, which collectively hold over 50% ownership.

The current executive committee of Tata Trusts includes Venu Srinivasan, Vijay Singh, and Mehli Mistry. In contrast, Ratan Tata’s younger brother, Jimmy, has opted out of the family business and resides in a modest two-bedroom apartment in Colaba, South Mumbai.

Ratan Tata, born in 1937 to Naval and Sooni Tata, was raised by his grandmother after his parents divorced when he was just 10 years old. His legacy continues through the various initiatives and companies under the Tata umbrella, now guided by Noel Tata’s leadership.
