In a significant move ahead of the Haryana Assembly elections, the Congress party has expelled two leaders for six years due to their involvement in anti-party activities. Virender Gogria and Somvir Ghasola have been suspended with immediate effect, as stated in an official letter from the party.
The letter indicated that the action was taken following reports that these leaders were participating in the assembly elections against the party’s official candidates. The decision aims to curb indiscipline within the party. This follows a similar action on September 27, when Congress suspended 13 leaders for the same reason.
Among those expelled is Sajjan Singh Dhull, a former candidate from the Pundri and Pai Legislative Assembly, who joined Congress last December. The Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee has received reports of various leaders and workers engaging in anti-party activities by contesting the elections against party nominees.
On September 28, Haryana Congress Chief Udai Bhan called for strict action against nine party rebels who are either running against official candidates or supporting candidates from other parties. In a letter to Manoj Chauhan, AICC secretary and co-incharge of Haryana, Bhan emphasized that these individuals were harming the party’s image.
Haryana will hold its assembly elections on October 5, with results set to be announced on October 8. In the previous elections in 2019, the BJP emerged as the single-largest party with 40 seats, while Congress secured 30 seats.
