A head constable of the Jammu and Kashmir Police was killed and an assistant sub-inspector injured during an encounter with terrorists in a remote village of Kathua district on Saturday evening. The incident occurred around 5:30 PM in Kog-Mandli village, Billawar tehsil, following a joint cordon and search operation launched by security forces based on intelligence reports regarding the presence of terrorists in the area.
Head Constable Bashir Ahmed lost his life in the exchange of gunfire, while an assistant sub-inspector sustained bullet injuries. Officials reported that the initial burst of fire was brief but later escalated into heavy gunfire from both sides. The area has since been cordoned off, and additional reinforcements have been deployed from nearby security camps.
As of the latest updates, the firing was ongoing, and one police officer has been confirmed injured. A police spokesperson stated, “Based on specific intelligence about the presence of terrorists, a joint search operation was initiated in Kog village. Contact has been established, and rounds have been exchanged between both sides.” The situation remains tense as security forces continue their operation.
