Today marks the 117th birth anniversary of Bhagat Singh

“Freedom is my birthright and I will have it.” These powerful words, spoken by Shaheed Azam Bhagat Singh, resonate even today. On September 28, we commemorate the 117th birth anniversary of this iconic freedom fighter, born in 1907. This country never got a freedom lover like him again. Even today, if someone reads the story of his patriotic bravery, his eyes will become moist and his chest will swell with pride.

On March 23, 1931, Bhagat Singh, along with Rajguru and Sukhdev, was hanged by the British for their involvement in the Lahore Conspiracy Case. Despite facing execution, they remained undeterred, boldly chanting “Inquilab Zindabad” as they embraced their fate. Nearly 93 years later, Bhagat Singh’s legacy endures, igniting the spirit of rebellion across the nation.

Neither the fear of punishment, nor the sorrow of dying… only ‘Inquilab Zindabad’ was on the lips. Bhagat Singh and his comrades laughingly kissed the noose and raised the slogan of Inquilab-Zindabad. The British held their breath, but after his sacrifice the fire of rebellion intensified in the entire country. His personality were such that he made everyone crazy about him. He was very fond of writing and reading, and it was said about him that a man’s love would be transformed after listening to his poetry. His words were filled with love for the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Bhagat Singh on his birth anniversary. Paying tribute to him on X, he said Bhagat Singh sacrificed his life to protect the self-respect of the motherland. 

Born in 1907, Singh was hanged by the British at an age of 23 for his involvement in revolutionary activities and is a iconic symbol of India’s resistance to the colonial rule
