India Dominates Bangladesh in Chennai Test

India kicked off their long Test season with a commanding victory over Bangladesh in Chennai, sealing the match in just three days and a session. The hosts claimed a 280-run win, taking a 1-0 lead in the two-match series, thanks to outstanding performances from R. Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant.

Set a daunting target of 515 runs, Bangladesh showed some resilience, improving on their first innings but ultimately faltered after the first hour of play on Sunday. R. Ashwin delivered a stellar performance, securing his 37th five-wicket haul, while he and Jadeja combined for nine wickets, bowling Bangladesh out for 234.

Ashwin’s remarkable match included both a century and a five-wicket haul, marking the fourth time he has achieved this feat in his career. Despite a decade-long dominance at home, India faced a spirited challenge from Bangladesh, who entered the series fresh off a historic win in Pakistan.

The Chennai pitch was less favorable for spinners than in recent matches, forcing the bowlers to work diligently. India found themselves in a tough spot early in their first innings, struggling at 144 for 6. However, Ashwin and Jadeja’s record-breaking 199-run partnership turned the tide. Ashwin showcased an aggressive batting style, scoring his fastest Test century, while Jadeja narrowly missed out on a hundred, finishing 16 runs short.

Their partnership lifted India to a total of 376 in the first innings. On Day 2, the pace attack shone as Jasprit Bumrah claimed four wickets, supported by Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj, who took two each. Although Ashwin did not take a wicket in the second innings, India’s bowling unit bundled Bangladesh out for just 149, securing a decisive win.
