In a deeply emotional moment for the state of Jharkhand, Sampadak Express brings you the latest update on the demise of veteran politician and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) founder Shibu Soren, lovingly referred to as Guruji. Soren, who had been battling chronic kidney-related ailments, breathed his last at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi on Monday morning at 8:48 AM. His passing marks the end of an era that helped shape Jharkhand’s political identity and tribal rights movement.
A Political Journey Rooted in Activism
Sampadak Express highlights Soren’s pivotal role in the formation of Jharkhand state. He served as Chief Minister three times, though none of his tenures lasted a full term. His first stint in 2005 lasted just ten days, followed by a year-long term in 2008 and a brief third term. Despite these short durations, his influence on grassroots politics and tribal welfare remained impactful.
From Local Struggles to National Leadership
Before Jharkhand’s creation, Soren emerged as a tribal rights crusader in the region then part of Bihar. Sampadak Express details his journey to Parliament, beginning in 1980 when he was elected as MP from Dumka. He went on to win the seat multiple times — in 1986, 1989, 1991, 1996, 2004, 2009, and 2014 — totaling eight Lok Sabha terms. He also served as Union Coal Minister thrice under the governments of P.V. Narasimha Rao and Dr. Manmohan Singh.
Son Hemant Soren Shares a Heartbreaking Tribute
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, son of Shibu Soren, took to social media to express his sorrow: “Aadarniya Dishom Guruji has left us all… today, I feel hollow.” This personal note was shared widely and echoed across political circles, as mourners reflected on Soren’s enduring legacy. Sampadak Express reported condolences from figures including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, recognizing Soren’s contributions to public service.
A Long Battle with Illness
Shibu Soren had been under continuous medical observation since June 24, admitted to the nephrology department of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. According to Sampadak Express sources, he suffered from chronic kidney complications along with other age-related health issues. He was 81 at the time of his passing.
Legacy Beyond Office
As per Sampadak Express, Shibu Soren’s political ethos laid the foundation for tribal rights advocacy and regional empowerment in eastern India. Despite electoral setbacks — including losses in 1977 and 1998 — his resilience remained unmatched. In 1999, his wife contested but was also defeated. Nonetheless, Soren’s later victories reaffirmed his connection with the people of Dumka and his party’s grassroots strength.
