A deadly road accident jolted Devghar, Jharkhand, on Tuesday morning. Six Kanwar pilgrims died instantly and 24 others suffered critical injuries. Police rushed them to nearby hospitals, and eight victims are now receiving treatment at AIIMS.
Ritual Journey Turns Fatal
The bus had just departed from Baba Baidyanath Dham after a water offering ceremony. Devotees from Bihar’s Betia and Gaya districts were headed toward Basukinath Temple in Dumka. Midway through Jamuniya forest, the vehicle collided with a truck loaded with LPG cylinders. Sampadak Express reports the crash occurred in Mohanpur’s jurisdiction.
Driver’s Fatigue Triggered Collision
Investigations revealed the bus was moving at high speed when the driver allegedly fell asleep. Without warning, the vehicle veered into the truck’s path. Sampadak Express verified that five pilgrims died on the spot. Rescuers had to extract victims from the wreckage as bystanders watched in horror.
Emergency Teams Mobilized
Local police and relief units acted swiftly. They evacuated the injured and transported them for advanced medical care. Sampadak Express confirms the bus was a 32-seater, completely mangled by impact. The scene was chaotic—cries for help echoed as survivors struggled to exit the remains.
Leaders Respond with Grief
MP Nishikant Dubey posted a statement on X, estimating the death toll at 18. Sampadak Express emphasizes that official confirmation is pending. CM Hemant Soren also expressed sorrow and pledged government support. He assured residents that rescue and medical teams would operate without delay.
