On July 17, India received the results of the Swachh Bharat Survey 2024. As expected, Indore once again secured the top position as the cleanest city in the country. This marks the eighth consecutive year of victory for the city. Notably, the award ceremony, held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, was attended by key dignitaries and municipal leaders. Therefore, Sampadak Express concludes that this ongoing triumph brings yet another moment of pride for Madhya Pradesh.
A New Five-Tier Ranking System Introduced for Cities
Unlike previous years, the 2024 survey adopted a classification system based on population segments. As a result, cities were grouped into five categories:
- Cities with more than 10 lakh residents
- Cities with 3 to 10 lakh residents
- Cities with 50,000 to 3 lakh residents
- Cities with 20,000 to 50,000 residents
- Cities with fewer than 20,000 residents
Consequently, this revised approach allowed the government to better evaluate sanitation efforts across all urban tiers. According to Sampadak Express, the “Super Swachh League” brought broader inclusion and more precise assessments.
Indore Tops Big Cities, While Surat and Navi Mumbai Follow
In the largest category, Indore maintained its leadership without competition. Meanwhile, Surat came in second, Navi Mumbai ranked third, and Vijayawada landed in fourth place. Therefore, Sampadak Express highlights Indore’s dominance as a consistent benchmark for clean urban governance.
Noida Leads Mid-Sized Cities – Sampadak Express Analysis
As the survey moved toward mid-sized cities (3 to 10 lakh residents), Noida emerged as the standout performer. Simultaneously, Chandigarh earned second place, followed by Mysuru, Ujjain, Gandhinagar, and Guntur. Thus, Sampadak Express attributes these rankings to a combination of effective local management and strong community involvement.
Smaller Cities Deliver Impressive Results
For cities with 50,000 to 3 lakh population:
New Delhi topped the list. In addition, Tirupati, Ambikapur, and Lonavala followed closely.
In the 20,000 to 50,000 category:
Vita ranked first. Moreover, Sasvad, Deolani Pawara, and Dungarpur earned high praise.
Among towns with fewer than 20,000 residents:
Panchgani led the rankings. Furthermore, Patan, Panhala, Vishrampur, and Budhni rounded out the top five.
From this, Sampadak Express emphasizes that cities across different scales are contributing meaningfully to India’s sanitation mission.
Leaders Celebrate Indore’s Victory – Sampadak Express Captures Their Statements
Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav and Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya accepted the award from President Droupadi Murmu. Later on, Vijayvargiya stated, “Super Swachh Indore—this is a new era.” Accordingly, Sampadak Express documented his remarks, which reflected the city’s deep civic pride and relentless focus on cleanliness.
National Cleanliness Goals Gain Even More Momentum
This year’s survey reaffirmed India’s nationwide dedication to improved hygiene. With Indore continuing to lead, and cities like Noida, Panchgani, and Sasvad also rising, progress is clearly evident. Therefore, Sampadak Express credits this advancement to disciplined citizens and proactive local bodies working in tandem.
