A French national visiting Udaipur has accused a local man of raping her after allegedly luring her away from a party under false pretenses, police confirmed on Tuesday.
The incident reportedly occurred on Monday in the Badgaon area of Udaipur. The woman, who had arrived in the city from Delhi on June 22, was staying at a hotel in the Ambamata locality.
According to police officials, the woman attended a social gathering at The Greek Farm Cafe and Restro near Tiger Hill, where she met the accused, identified as Siddharth. Station House Officer (SHO) Purna Singh Rajpurohit stated that Siddharth invited her to step outside, claiming he wanted to show her scenic views and take a smoke break.
Despite the woman’s repeated requests to return to her hotel, the accused allegedly took her to a rented apartment in the Sukher area. With her phone battery dead, she was unable to contact anyone for help. The woman later alleged that Siddharth made unwanted advances, and upon her resistance, sexually assaulted her.
Udaipur Superintendent of Police (SP) Yogesh Goyal said a case has been registered based on the woman’s statement, and a medical examination has been conducted. “A detailed investigation is underway to verify how the two came into contact. The accused has been identified and is currently absconding. Efforts are being made to trace him,” he said.
Following the incident, the woman approached a private hospital for medical assistance and subsequently filed a complaint with the local police.
Authorities have assured full support to the victim and emphasized that strict action will be taken against the accused. The woman is reported to be in stable condition and continues to receive medical care.
The case has sparked concern over tourist safety in the city, which is a major international travel destination.
