12-Day War Ends? Trump Declares Israel-Iran Ceasefire, But Missile Sirens Continue

In a dramatic development, former U.S. President Donald Trump announced a “complete and total ceasefire” between Israel and Iran, effectively marking the end of the so-called 12-day war. Trump made the announcement on his social media platform Truth Social, stating that both nations had agreed to phased ceasefire arrangements beginning six hours after his post.“

It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE,” Trump declared. “Upon the 12th Hour, Israel will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 24th Hour, an Official END to THE 12 DAY WAR will be saluted by the World.”

Trump added that the ceasefire came after both sides completed “in-progress missions” and lauded Israel and Iran for choosing peace. In a follow-up post, Trump claimed that both nations approached him simultaneously seeking peace. “The future for Israel & Iran is UNLIMITED,” he wrote, calling the moment a win for the Middle East and the world.

Iran Issues Conflicting Statements

Shortly after Trump’s declaration, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi refuted claims of a formal ceasefire agreement. He stated Iran had only pledged to stop further retaliation if Israel ceased its military aggression by 4:00 AM Tehran time.“

As of now, there is NO agreement on any ceasefire… however, if Israel stops its illegal aggression, Iran will halt its response,” said Araghchi.

Interestingly, just 15 minutes later, Araghchi posted a message thanking Iran’s armed forces for “continuing military operations until the very last minute,” indicating operations had concluded at 4:00 AM, but without confirming any ceasefire pact.

Israel Declares Mission Accomplished

Meanwhile, Israel’s Foreign Ministry announced that the country had achieved all its objectives under Operation Rising Lion, claiming to have neutralized existential threats and asserting air superiority over Tehran.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the Israeli Security Cabinet that dozens of Iranian regime targets had been destroyed and praised Trump for his support.“

In light of having achieved the objectives of the operation, and in full coordination with President Trump, Israel agrees to the President’s proposal for a bilateral ceasefire,” the ministry stated.

Accusations of Ceasefire Breach

Despite the announcement, tensions quickly resurfaced. Hours after Trump’s post, Israel accused Iran of violating the ceasefire by firing a missile toward Israeli territory.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz, in coordination with Netanyahu, ordered the IDF to resume strikes on Iranian regime targets in Tehran.“

These strikes are aimed at regime targets and terror infrastructure in the capital,” Katz said.

Simultaneously, missile sirens continued to sound across parts of Israel, as reported by the IDF on X, indicating ongoing Iranian attacks.

How the Conflict Began

The Israel-Iran conflict erupted on June 13, when Israel launched a massive air offensive, Operation Rising Lion, targeting Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure. In response, Iran’s IRGC launched “Operation True Promise 3”, firing a barrage of drones and missiles at Israeli territory.

The conflict escalated further when the United States joined on June 22, launching airstrikes on three key Iranian nuclear facilities under “Operation Midnight Hammer.” Iran responded by attacking U.S. military installations in Iraq and Qatar, including Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

While Israel and the U.S. justified the attacks as a pre-emptive move to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, Tehran maintained that its nuclear program is strictly for peaceful purposes.

The Uncertain Path Ahead

With continued missile fire and accusations of ceasefire violations, the situation on the ground remains volatile despite diplomatic claims of resolution. Whether the ceasefire will hold and if the 12-day war has indeed ended remains to be seen.
