In a major security breach, the Amritsar Rural Police have arrested an Indian Army soldier and one accomplice on charges of espionage and leaking sensitive military information to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The arrest comes in the wake of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, prompting heightened security and intelligence operations across the border regions.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi Fauji, and Sahil Masih alias Shali. According to Amritsar Rural Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Maninder Singh, Gurpreet Singh has been serving in the Indian Army since 2016 and was stationed in Jammu at the time of his arrest.
Initial investigations suggest that Gurpreet had established direct contact with ISI operative Rana Javed, who is believed to be the key handler coordinating intelligence operations on the Pakistani side. Police officials revealed that Gurpreet used USB devices to transmit classified military information to ISI contacts.
Authorities have seized two mobile phones from the accused, which forensic experts say were used for secure communications with ISI handlers. Digital analysis has reportedly confirmed the flow of sensitive data to Pakistan.
The arrests have raised serious concerns about internal security, especially amid surging tensions with Pakistan. Investigators are now trying to determine the scale of the espionage network and whether the accused had connections with other terror outfits, either in India or abroad.
Police sources indicate that Gurpreet may have had prior knowledge of the Pahalgam attack, and officials are probing the possibility that critical intelligence was shared in advance with Pakistan-based operatives.
The case is currently being investigated by central intelligence and military agencies, with a high-level review of internal communication protocols expected in the coming days.
