In a move to streamline toll collection and offer greater convenience to commuters, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has launched a FASTag-based Annual Pass for non-commercial private vehicles. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced the initiative on social media platform X, stating that the pass will be available from August 15, 2025, at an annual cost of ₹3,000.

What Is the FASTag Annual Pass?

The FASTag Annual Pass allows private vehicle owners (cars, jeeps, vans) to make up to 200 toll plaza trips in a year under a single payment. The pass will be valid for one year from the activation date or until 200 trips are exhausted whichever comes first.

The scheme is designed primarily to benefit residents living within 60 km of toll plazas, who often face multiple toll charges for short-distance commutes.

How to Apply for the FASTag Annual Pass

Users can purchase and activate the pass through:

The Rajmarg Yatra mobile app

The official websites of NHAI and MoRTH

A dedicated link for activation and renewal will be shared closer to the rollout date.

Benefits of the FASTag Yearly Pass

One-time payment for tolls, valid for up to 200 trips

Faster and smoother travel at toll plazas

Reduced congestion and fewer toll disputes

Particularly useful for daily or frequent travelers on national highways

A step towards digital and modern toll management

Minister Gadkari emphasized that the new system will help reduce public grievances related to toll charges and support seamless mobility across India’s highway network.

Why It Matters

This initiative is part of the government’s broader agenda to modernize India’s road infrastructure, improve the commuter experience, and digitize toll services. The FASTag Annual Pass is expected to enhance efficiency, transparency, and ease of travel on the national highway grid.
