Union Home Minister Amit Shah, while addressing a large gathering in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday, emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s strong message to Pakistan following the successful Operation Sindoor. The operation, which targeted and dismantled several terror bases, served as a warning that “India’s blood is not meant to be shed,” Shah stated.
The Home Minister was in Lucknow to participate in a ceremony where more than 60,000 newly selected police constables received their appointment letters. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath handed over the letters to the recruits in the presence of Shah.
During his address, Shah also criticized the previous Congress-led UPA government, accusing it of failing to curb the wave of terrorist attacks that plagued India before 2014. “During Congress rule, terror attacks were almost a daily occurrence Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Coimbatore, Delhi, and especially Kashmir suffered repeatedly. But under PM Modi’s leadership, Pakistan’s attempts to target India have been met with strong retaliation,” Shah said.
Citing specific incidents, he recalled India’s robust responses the surgical strike following the Uri attack, the airstrike after the Pulwama attack, and most recently, Operation Sindoor in response to the Pahalgam attack. “After the Pahalgam attack, in which 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed, PM Modi ordered Operation Sindoor. Terrorist headquarters were destroyed, sending a message that whoever dares to spill Indian blood will face strict consequences,” Shah declared.
Naxalism to Be Wiped Out by 2026: Shah
Amit Shah also highlighted the significant progress made in the fight against Naxalism, crediting PM Modi’s governance over the past 11 years. He asserted that Naxal activity, which once spanned across 11 states, has now been contained to just three districts. “Mark my words by March 31, 2026, Naxalism will be completely eliminated from India,” Shah promised.
Recent counter-Naxal operations have resulted in the elimination of several top leaders, including CPI (Maoist) General Secretary and Polit Bureau member Basavaraju alias Gaganna, Central Committee Member Gautam alias Sudhakar, and Bhaskar. In one significant encounter on May 21, 27 Naxals were neutralized in Boter village forests.
Sharp Decline in Naxal Violence
According to government data, incidents of Naxal violence have seen a sharp 53% decline over the past decade. Between 2004 and 2014, India witnessed 16,463 incidents of Naxal-related violence, while from 2014 to 2024, this number dropped to 7,744.
Officials attribute this success to intensified counter-insurgency operations and effective strategic policies implemented by security forces. The continuous crackdown on Naxal strongholds, combined with development initiatives in affected regions, has significantly weakened the insurgency.
Operation Sindoor: A Decisive Blow
Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, was India’s direct response to the deadly Pahalgam attack. The operation led to targeted strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Over 100 terrorists associated with groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen were neutralized, dealing a severe blow to cross-border terrorism.
As India continues its proactive counter-terror and counter-insurgency measures, Shah reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining national security and ensuring that the sacrifices of Indians do not go unanswered.
