NEET UG 2025 Counselling Process: All You Need to Know

With results out, the focus now shifts to the NEET UG counselling process the gateway to medical college admissions across India. The counselling is conducted through a two-tier system:

1. All India Quota (15% Seats):

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) manages the 15% AIQ counselling. This includes admissions to prestigious institutes such as AIIMS, JIPMER, and central universities. Through this centralized process, candidates from any state can apply for seats nationwide.

2. State Quota (85% Seats):

Each state conducts its own counselling for the remaining 85% seats. State counselling authorities follow specific rules including domicile requirements and, in some cases, language proficiency criteria. Candidates must apply separately for both national and state counselling to increase their chances of securing a seat.

How to Prepare for Counselling: Key Tips for Success

Counselling success depends on more than just securing a good rank. Here are essential steps candidates should follow:

Document Readiness: Keep all required documents ready original mark sheets, identity proofs, caste certificates, domicile certificates, and other relevant papers.

Choice Filling Strategy: Research college rankings, fee structures, available courses, and location preferences. A well-balanced list of top preferences and safe options can improve admission chances.

Professional Guidance: Many coaching institutes and experts offer specialised counselling guidance, helping candidates navigate seat allotment, cutoff predictions, and seat matrix analysis.

Stay Flexible: Multiple rounds of counselling are held, and students should remain open to different options and keep track of deadlines for each round.

Stay Patient & Informed Throughout the Process

NEET UG counselling is a multi-round process that can extend up to September 2025. Candidates must stay updated with official notifications, participate actively in all rounds, and regularly check both national and state counselling websites.

Every year, thousands of students successfully secure admissions through a combination of careful planning, timely participation, and informed decision-making. Even candidates with mid-level ranks have managed to get into reputed colleges by strategically using the counselling process.
