In a shocking revelation, the Meghalaya Police have cracked the case of Indore tourist Raja Raghuvanshi’s murder, arresting his wife Sonam Raghuvanshi for allegedly orchestrating the crime during their honeymoon.
Raja Raghuvanshi, a newly-wed man from Madhya Pradesh’s Indore, went missing on May 23 in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya. His body was discovered on June 2 in a deep gorge near Sohrarim, close to Cherrapunji. Initially reported missing alongside her husband, Sonam later surfaced in Uttar Pradesh and surrendered at Nandganj police station in Ghazipur.

Following a swift investigation, the Meghalaya Police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested three men suspected of being involved in the murder. According to police, the trio two from Indore and one from Uttar Pradesh confessed that they were hired by Sonam to kill her husband. Further arrests are expected as the investigation continues.
Meghalaya Director General of Police, Idashisha Nongrang, confirmed the development:
“One accused from Uttar Pradesh and two others from Indore have been apprehended. The arrested individuals have named more people involved, and operations are underway to track them down.”
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma lauded the police for their swift action, stating on X (formerly Twitter):
“Within 7 days, a major breakthrough has been achieved… Three assailants from Madhya Pradesh arrested, female surrendered, and one more suspect is still at large. Well done, @MeghalayaPolice.”

The case drew widespread attention after the victim’s family expressed concerns about the investigation. Raja’s brother, Vipul Raghuvanshi, has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav to order a CBI probe into the matter, citing doubts over the state police’s handling of the case.
Adding a twist to the timeline, local tourist guide Albert Pde claimed he saw the couple with three unidentified men on May 23 the day they went missing.“
They were climbing the steps from Nongriat to Mawlakhiat around 10 AM. The woman followed the four men, who were conversing in Hindi,” said Pde, who recalled previously offering to guide the couple the day before, an offer they declined.

According to the guide, the couple had stayed the night of May 22 at a local homestay after hiring another guide and were last seen heading back the next morning without assistance.
As the investigation deepens, the shocking tale of betrayal and premeditated murder continues to unfold, leaving a trail of unanswered questions and a grieving family in its wake.
