India’s Active Covid-19 Cases Cross 6,000 Mark; 6 Deaths Reported in 24 Hours

India’s active Covid-19 caseload has risen to 6,133, with 378 new cases reported in the last 24 hours, according to data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on Sunday. The total number of people discharged or recovered during the same period stood at 753.

Key Highlights:

1. Rise in Active Cases:

India saw an increase of 378 active cases from Saturday. Kerala continues to report the highest number of active infections, followed by Gujarat and West Bengal.

2. Death Toll:

Six Covid-related deaths were reported between Saturday and Sunday:

Karnataka: Two fatalities — a 4-year-old boy with Cor Pulmonale and PAH, and a 78-year-old man with Ischemic Heart Disease and other complications.

Kerala: Three deaths — a 51-year-old man with hypertension and kidney disease, a 64-year-old cancer patient, and a 92-year-old man with multiple health conditions.

Tamil Nadu: One death — a 42-year-old man with uncontrolled diabetes, acute kidney disease, and a seizure disorder.

3. State-Wise Breakdown of New Cases:

Kerala: 144 new cases

Gujarat: 105 new cases

West Bengal: 71 new cases

Rajasthan: 24 new cases

Delhi: 21 new cases

Kerala currently leads the active case count with 1,950 active infections.

4. Recovery Figures:

Since January 1, a total of 6,237 patients have recovered or been discharged across India. The cumulative death toll for the year stands at 65. Notably, the active case count has increased sharply from 257 on May 22 to over 6,000 within just over two weeks.

Public Advisory:

Health authorities continue to urge citizens to follow Covid-appropriate behaviour, especially in states reporting a surge, and to seek medical attention in case of symptoms.
