In a disturbing development, Delhi Police on Saturday apprehended a 25-year-old man for allegedly issuing a death threat to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The accused, identified as Shlok Tripathi, was taken into custody by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police and is currently being interrogated at their office in northwest Delhi.
According to official sources, Tripathi made the threat via the emergency helpline number 112 in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, during the early hours between Thursday night (June 5) and Friday morning (June 6). Authorities believe the call originated from Panchwati Colony in Ghaziabad.
Responding swiftly, the Ghaziabad Police alerted their counterparts in Delhi and dispatched a team to the location from where the threat call was traced. However, by the time law enforcement reached the area, the caller had managed to evade capture.

Speaking on the incident, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ritesh Tripathi of Ghaziabad said, “We acted immediately upon tracing the origin of the call. Though the suspect was not found at the scene initially, our coordination with Delhi Police led to his eventual arrest.”
Further investigations have revealed that the accused is a known fraudster who has a history of using multiple identities. “He frequently changes his name and personal details to mislead authorities and avoid detection,” said a senior Delhi Police official involved in the probe.
The motive behind the threat is yet to be ascertained. Authorities are currently examining whether the threat was politically motivated or part of a larger scheme of criminal behavior.
Security around Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has been reviewed and tightened in response to the threat, although no immediate danger to her person has been reported.
The Delhi Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to criminal intimidation and misuse of emergency services. Further details are expected once the interrogation concludes.
