Gill Replaces Rohit Sharma as India’s New Test Captain

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a 19 member squad for the upcoming five match Test series against England, set to begin on June 20. In a significant development, Shubman Gill has been appointed as the new captain following Rohit Sharma’s retirement from Test cricket. Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been named vice-captain.

The selection committee has made a few notable calls, with senior pacer Mohammed Shami being left out of the squad. Young left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh has earned his maiden Test call up, while Shardul Thakur returns to the lineup. Kuldeep Yadav is the sole specialist spinner included in the squad.

Karun Nair’s Comeback Headlines Selection Calls

In a remarkable comeback, Karun Nair has been recalled to the Test side after a seven-year absence. The middle-order batter, who famously scored a triple century against England in 2016, has impressed in domestic cricket this season.

The five-Test series will be played at iconic venues across England Leeds, Birmingham, Lord’s, Manchester, and The Oval.
