The Uttar Pradesh government is moving forward with plans to develop a new spiritual corridor ‘Bharat Path’ in Ayodhya, aimed at enhancing connectivity to the sacred site of Bharatkund. Estimated to cost Rs 900 crore, the proposal has been submitted by the Public Works Department (PWD) for government approval.
The 20-km stretch will connect Ranopali railway crossing on Ram Path to Bharatkund, passing through Vidyakund and Darshan Nagar along the Prayagraj Highway. Currently a two-lane road, Bharat Path is set to be upgraded to a dual 9-metre lane roadway with a 2.5-metre central divider, ensuring smoother and safer traffic flow for the increasing number of visitors.
According to PWD officials, the road will be designed on the lines of Ram Path, offering improved access and a better travel experience for pilgrims visiting Ayodhya. Executive Engineer SP Bharti confirmed that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been submitted and work will begin following the green light from authorities.

Following the inauguration of the Ram Temple, Ayodhya has witnessed a massive surge in pilgrims from across the country and abroad. To manage this influx, the government is investing in major infrastructure upgrades, including Ram Path, Bhakti Path, Janmabhoomi Path, and now Bharat Path. Additionally, widening work is ongoing on the Panchkosi and Chaudahkosi Parikrama routes, which are vital for religious parikrama circuits.
Bharatkund holds deep spiritual significance. As per the Ramayana, Lord Ram’s younger brother Bharat performed penance here during Ram’s 14-year exile. The site is also believed to be where Lord Ram performed the ‘Pind Daan’ ritual for King Dasharatha. The sacred lake at Bharatkund attracts thousands of devotees, especially from eastern Uttar Pradesh and Prayagraj.
The development of Bharat Path is expected to further ease pilgrim access to this revered site, strengthening Ayodhya’s status as a major spiritual destination.
