India Sends Strong Anti-Terror Message Globally, Tharoor to Lead 7-MP Delegation

In a landmark move underscoring national unity, Congress MP and former diplomat Shashi Tharoor will lead a seven-member all-party delegation on a global diplomatic mission to rally support for India’s zero-tolerance stance on terrorism. The high-level outreach comes in the wake of Operation Sindoor, India’s retaliatory action against terror camps following the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 people.

The government announced on Saturday that the delegation comprising leaders from across the political spectrum will visit key global capitals to present India’s unified stance against terrorism. The initiative, led by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, aims to engage international stakeholders, including members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

“When It Matters, Bharat Stands United”

“In moments that matter most, Bharat stands united,” said Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju in a post on X. He described the initiative as a “powerful reflection of national unity above politics, beyond differences.”

Tharoor, acknowledging the gravity of the mission, expressed his gratitude to the government:”

I am honoured by the invitation of the government of India to lead an all-party delegation to five key capitals, to present our nation’s point of view on recent events. When national interest is involved, and my services are required, I will not be found wanting. Jai Hind!” he posted.

Diverse Delegation to Represent India

The delegation features prominent MPs including:

Kanimozhi Karunanidhi (DMK)

Supriya Sule (NCP – Sharad Pawar faction)

Ravi Shankar Prasad and Baijayant Panda (BJP)

Sanjay Kumar Jha (JD-U)

Shrikant Shinde (Shiv Sena)

In addition to the core team, a broader diplomatic effort will see other MPs joining the global outreach over a 10-day period. Likely participants include Asaduddin Owaisi (AIMIM), Salman Khurshid and Manish Tewari (Congress), Ghulam Nabi Azad (DPAP), Priyanka Chaturvedi (Shiv Sena-UBT), Sasmit Patra (BJD), Vikramjeet Sawhney (AAP), and John Brittas (CPI-M), among others.

The Ministry confirmed that the delegation will engage with global institutions, presenting India’s firm resolve to combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

Backdrop: Operation Sindoor and Escalating Tensions

The initiative follows Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7 in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. India targeted and destroyed nine terror camps linked to groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad, and Hizbul Mujahideen. Reports suggest over 100 militants were neutralized.

Pakistan retaliated with drone and missile attacks, which were effectively intercepted by Indian defence systems. India responded with precision strikes on Pakistani military targets. The brief but intense military exchange raised international concerns, culminating in a ceasefire agreement on May 10.

With geopolitical stakes high, the Indian delegation’s mission seeks to reinforce a unified national front and solidify international support against terrorism.
