Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has announced the suspension of its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Inonu University in Türkiye, citing national security concerns. The decision, effective immediately, was confirmed in an official statement shared via the university’s social media platforms.“JNU stands with the Nation,” the university declared, reaffirming its commitment to national interests.

JNU Vice-Chancellor Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit clarified that the now-suspended MoU was a standard academic cooperation agreement focused on research and teaching. “JNU has suspended the MoU due to national security considerations as JNU stands with the nation and the armed forces, many of whom are JNU alumni,” she said.
The MoU, signed on February 3, was intended to last three years and aimed to foster cross-cultural academic exchange and research collaboration. Inonu University, located in Malatya, Türkiye, was among the 78 global institutions partnered with JNU.
The announcement has also triggered broader consequences. Travel agencies report a noticeable uptick in cancellations for trips to Türkiye and Azerbaijan. MakeMyTrip reported a 250% rise in cancellations, while EaseMyTrip noted a 22% increase for Türkiye and a 30% jump for Azerbaijan.
The university has not disclosed specific details about the security concerns but emphasized that the decision was made in alignment with national priorities.
