The Government of India has declared a Pakistani official posted at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi as persona non grata, citing involvement in activities incompatible with diplomatic norms. The official has been directed to leave the country within 24 hours, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Tuesday.
In a formal statement, the MEA said, “The Government of India has declared a Pakistani official, working at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, persona non grata for indulging in activities not in keeping with his official status in India. The official has been asked to leave India within 24 hours. Charge d’Affaires, Pakistan High Commission, was issued a demarche to this effect today.”

While the MEA did not reveal specific details regarding the nature of the misconduct, official sources suggest the expulsion is linked to an ongoing espionage investigation by Punjab Police.
On Sunday, Punjab Police disclosed the arrest of two individuals, including a woman, in connection with an espionage case tied to the Pakistani official. The suspects Falaksher Masih and Suraj Masih were allegedly involved in transmitting sensitive information, including photographs of Army cantonment areas and airbases, to handlers in Pakistan.”
Based on credible intelligence, a suspect was arrested for leaking sensitive information to a Pakistan-based handler regarding Indian Army movements,” said Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav. He added that the accused had received payments through online transactions in exchange for the classified data.
This development comes amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following a recent four-day military standoff. Indian authorities have responded with strict diplomatic and security measures.
