Tensions between India and Pakistan have reached a critical point following India’s high-precision military operation targeting multiple terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Dubbed ‘Operation Sindoor’, the strike was launched in the early hours of May 7 in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which claimed 26 lives in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the Ministry of Defence, one of the significant achievements of the operation was the destruction of Pakistan’s air defence system in Lahore, marking a strategic blow to the neighboring nation’s military capability.

Indian fighter jets, including Rafale and Sukhoi Su-30s, carried out the mission using precision-guided weaponry such as SCALP missiles and Spice-2000 bombs advanced systems designed for accurate and cost-effective strikes. All actions were reportedly conducted without crossing into Pakistani airspace.
The Indian Armed Forces targeted key terror infrastructure, including the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) base in Bahawalpur, where ten members of Masood Azhar’s family and four close associates were killed. Simultaneously, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) camps in Muridke were also neutralized.
International Reactions
The operation has garnered mixed global reactions. Countries including the United States, France, The Netherlands, and Panama have voiced support for India’s right to self-defense. U.S. President Donald Trump has offered to mediate between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. On the other hand, China and Turkey have expressed their backing for Pakistan.
Escalation Along the Borders
In response, Pakistan has intensified ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB), resulting in the deaths of 13 civilians in Poonch and injuries to 59 others across border districts, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
Pakistan has declared its intent to respond on its “own terms,” though Indian officials have reiterated that India has no desire to escalate further and will retaliate only if provoked again.
Political Consensus Amid Crisis
The Indian government convened an all-party meeting on May 8, where Defence Minister Rajnath Singh briefed political leaders on Operation Sindoor. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge expressed full support for the government’s actions, signaling rare political unity during a time of heightened national security concerns.
As developments continue to unfold, both nations stand on the brink of a deeper conflict, with international observers urging restraint and diplomacy.
