In a major crackdown on misinformation ahead of the NEET-UG 2025 examination, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has identified 122 social media channels—106 on Telegram and 16 on Instagram—for allegedly spreading false claims related to the medical entrance exam.
According to official sources, these channels were found promoting misleading information, including fake question paper leaks, in an attempt to create confusion and panic among aspirants. The action follows a flood of over 1,500 reports submitted to the NTA’s recently launched Suspicious Claims Reporting Portal, designed to tackle fraudulent activities surrounding the exam.
To curb the spread of misinformation, the NTA has formally escalated these cases to the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs for legal and investigative follow-up.“
The NTA has requested both Telegram and Instagram to immediately take down the flagged channels and groups,” a source said. “Additionally, the platforms have been urged to share the details of the administrators and group creators with law enforcement for further investigation and possible prosecution.”
The NEET-UG 2025 exam is scheduled for May 4, and the Ministry of Education (MoE) is closely monitoring the situation. In preparation, the MoE is conducting high-level meetings with district magistrates and police officials across all states and Union territories to ensure a smooth and secure examination process.
This coordinated response comes in the wake of alleged irregularities in last year’s examination cycle, where concerns over paper leaks had cast a shadow on the credibility of the testing system.
The NTA has reassured students and parents that every measure is being taken to safeguard the integrity of the examination and to take strict action against those attempting to manipulate the process.
