Pakistan Threatens Nuclear Action Over Indus Treaty Row

By The Sampadak Express

Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated dramatically after Pakistan’s senior official Hanif Abbasi issued a stark nuclear threat in response to India’s decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty. Abbasi warned that Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal — including the Ghori, Shaheen, and Ghaznavi missile systems — is “only for India” and that Islamabad is prepared to respond with force if provoked.“

If they stop the water supply to us, then they should be ready for a war,” Abbasi declared. “The military equipment we have, the missiles we have, they’re not for display. Nobody knows where we have placed our nuclear weapons across the country. All of them are targeted at India.”

His remarks come in the wake of India’s suspension of the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, a move triggered by the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. The Resistance Front (TRF), a Pakistan-linked proxy of Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the attack.

In addition to the treaty suspension, India has also halted visa issuance to Pakistani nationals and downgraded diplomatic ties. In retaliation, Islamabad closed its airspace to Indian carriers and threatened to suspend the 1972 Simla Agreement, which underpins the current Line of Control framework.

Abbasi mocked the economic impact on India, warning that its aviation sector could collapse if the airspace closure continues. “If things were to continue like this for another 10 days, the airlines in India would go bankrupt,” he said.

The Pakistani minister also hinted at Islamabad’s preparedness for a broader economic fallout, saying that the country has already begun bracing for any countermeasures New Delhi might impose on trade.

This renewed standoff has raised concerns in the international community, with the risk of further escalation between two nuclear-armed neighbours now looming large.
