Amid escalating tensions with Pakistan, the Indian Navy has successfully carried out a series of anti-ship missile firings, showcasing its long-range precision strike capabilities. The exercises, involving multiple naval warships, included the launch of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, reaffirming the Navy’s operational readiness across maritime domains.
The drills come in the wake of a deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22, where 26 tourists lost their lives. India has squarely blamed Pakistan for harboring terror outfits and failing to curb cross-border terrorism. The Resistance Front (TRF), believed to be a proxy of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), claimed responsibility for the attack—the deadliest in the region since the revocation of Article 370 in 2019.“
Indian Navy ships undertook successful multiple anti-ship firings to revalidate and demonstrate readiness of platforms, systems, and crew for long-range precision offensive strikes,” a senior Navy official stated. “The Indian Navy remains combat-ready, credible, and future-proof in safeguarding national maritime interests — anytime, anywhere, anyhow.”
The BrahMos missile, a product of the India-Russia joint venture BrahMos Aerospace, is known for its supersonic speed of Mach 2.8 and versatility across platforms — from land to air and sea. A number of Indian Navy vessels are armed with this powerful system, significantly enhancing India’s strike capabilities in maritime warfare.
In a strong diplomatic response to the Pahalgam attack, India has downgraded ties with Pakistan and announced a series of measures, including:
Suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty
Closure of the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari
Suspension of visa services for Pakistani nationals
Scaling down of diplomatic staff at the High Commission
In retaliation, Pakistan has halted bilateral trade and issued warnings of a “measured response” if military action is initiated by India.
Tensions continue to mount along the Line of Control (LoC), where Pakistani forces have reportedly violated the ceasefire for three consecutive nights. According to defence sources, the Indian Army has responded effectively to unprovoked firing across multiple locations.
As the situation develops, India’s armed forces remain on high alert, prepared to defend national interests across all domains.
