Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir:Two terrorists were neutralized in an intense gunfight with security forces in the Uri Nala area of Baramulla district, the Indian Army confirmed on Monday. The encounter occurred during an infiltration attempt near the Sarjeevan sector and follows closely on the heels of the tragic terrorist attack in Pahalgam that left 26 dead.

According to the Chinar Corps, a group of two to three terrorists tried to infiltrate Indian territory when alert security forces intercepted them, leading to a heavy exchange of fire. “Two terrorists have been eliminated, and the infiltration bid was successfully foiled,” the Army said in a statement on X. A large cache of weapons, ammunition, and other war-like stores was recovered from the scene. The operation is still underway.

This development comes just a day after the horrifying attack at Baisaran meadow — also known as ‘mini Switzerland’ — in Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination. The assault claimed the lives of 26 people and left several others injured, sparking national outrage.

In response to the Pahalgam tragedy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi cut short his official two-day state visit to Saudi Arabia. Originally scheduled to return Wednesday night, the PM landed in Delhi early Wednesday morning and immediately held a high-level meeting with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

The Prime Minister had been in Saudi Arabia at the invitation of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Skipping the official dinner hosted in his honor, PM Modi returned to personally oversee the situation.

Condemning the Pahalgam attack in strong terms, PM Modi vowed justice. “I strongly condemn the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest. Those behind this heinous act will be brought to justice… they will not be spared!” he posted on X.

The Prime Minister reiterated India’s unwavering commitment to eradicating terrorism: “Their evil agenda will never succeed. Our resolve to fight terrorism is unshakable, and it will only grow stronger.”
