In a bizarre and shocking incident from Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, a woman eloped with her daughter’s fiancé just a week before the wedding. The woman, identified as Apna Devi, took Rs 3 lakh in cash and jewelry worth over Rs 5 lakh, which had been saved for her daughter’s wedding, before fleeing with the groom-to-be.
The wedding, originally set for April 16, had already seen the distribution of invitations and was poised for pre-wedding celebrations. However, this unexpected turn of events has left both families in a state of shock and disbelief.
Apna Devi, nearly 40 years old, was living with her family in a village under the Madraak police station area, while the groom, Sushant, hailed from a neighboring village. According to Jitendra Kumar, the bride’s father, he never suspected anything untoward despite noticing his wife frequently speaking with the groom. “She has ruined us,” Kumar lamented.
The groom, Sushant, left his home on Sunday morning, informing his father that he was going on a long trip and asked not to be contacted. When his father grew concerned and reached out to the bride’s family, they discovered both the groom and Apna Devi had vanished. The family immediately filed a missing person report at the Madraak police station.
Both the runaway couple switched off their mobile phones after leaving, making their whereabouts even more elusive. Police officials confirmed the case and have launched a search for the couple. Station House Officer Arvind Kumar stated, “We have received a complaint and are conducting an investigation. Further action will be taken once they are found.”
As the search continues, the families remain in disbelief, struggling to understand the motive behind the elopement and the betrayal.
