Ram Navami 2025 is being celebrated with great fervor and grandeur across India today, April 6, marking the birth of Lord Ram. Thousands of devotees have gathered at key religious sites, especially the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya, where the celebrations at the newly inaugurated Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir are attracting massive crowds. The temple complex is buzzing with enthusiasm as devotees come together to witness elaborate rituals and historic events throughout the day.

A highlight of this year’s Ram Navami celebrations in Ayodhya is the Surya Tilak—an extraordinary celestial phenomenon where sunlight naturally falls on the forehead of Ram Lalla’s idol at exactly 12:00 noon. This divine event, which lasts for about four minutes, symbolizes the grace and blessings of Lord Ram. For those unable to attend, the momentous occasion is being broadcast live on Doordarshan, allowing millions of people around the world to experience the sacred ceremony.

The temple rituals include the Abhishek (ritual bathing), Shringar (decoration), Aarti (prayers), and the offering of Chappan Bhog (56 types of food) at the exact time of Lord Ram’s birth. Across Uttar Pradesh, devotees have also been participating in a two-day Akhand Ramayan Paath, a continuous recitation of the Ramcharitmanas, which began on Ashtami and concludes today.

The Surya Tilak ceremony was successfully performed at the Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir precisely at 12 noon, as a ray of sunlight, carefully directed through a system of mirrors and lenses, illuminated the forehead of Ram Lalla’s idol. The moment was a beautiful combination of spirituality and science, with the divine event lasting for about four minutes. The peak brilliance of the sunlight illuminated the idol for two to three minutes, leaving many devotees present in a state of awe and deep emotion, as they witnessed this celestial blessing from Surya Dev.

In addition to the iconic Surya Tilak, the Ram Mandir complex in Ayodhya houses several temples dedicated to revered figures from Lord Ram’s life and the Ramayana. Devotees can pay homage to the sage Maharishi Valmiki, the composer of the Ramayana, as well as Maharishi Vashishtha, the royal priest and guru of the Raghu dynasty. Temples dedicated to Maharishi Vishwamitra, who mentored Lord Ram during his early life, and Maharishi Agastya, who met Ram during his exile, are also part of the complex.

The temple honors significant figures from the Ramayana, including Nishad Raj, the king of the tribal community who helped Ram cross the Ganga during his exile, and Mata Shabari, the devoted elderly woman who waited a lifetime to offer Lord Ram berries as an expression of her pure devotion.

Other notable temples in the complex are dedicated to Surya Dev (the Sun God and Ram’s ancestral deity), Lord Shankar (Shiva), Lord Ganapati (Ganesha), and Goddess Ahilya, who was liberated from a curse by Lord Ram. The spiritual and cultural significance of the Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir is profound, reflecting the deep connection between the divine and the epic of Lord Ram.

On this sacred occasion, top leaders, including President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have extended their heartfelt greetings, wishing peace, prosperity, and harmony to all across the nation.
