Delhi is set to experience a heatwave from April 5 to April 8, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting maximum temperatures reaching between 40°C and 42°C. Along with Delhi, several states in northern India, including Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh, will also face heatwave conditions in the coming days.
Heatwave Forecast for Delhi:
April 5: Maximum temperatures between 38°C and 40°C, with minimums around 18°C to 20°C.
April 6: Temperatures may rise slightly, with maximums ranging from 39°C to 41°C and minimums between 19°C and 21°C.
April 7-8: The heat intensifies further, with highs between 40°C and 42°C and lows ranging from 21°C to 23°C. No warm night conditions are expected during this period.

Extended Heatwave Outlook: The heatwave conditions are expected to continue through April 9, with maximum temperatures ranging between 39°C and 41°C. Additionally, the IMD predicts isolated pockets in Saurashtra, Kutch, South Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh to experience similar conditions from April 5 to April 9.
Heatwave Conditions Across Other States:
Punjab and Gujarat: April 6-9
Rajasthan: West Rajasthan from April 5-10, East Rajasthan from April 6-10
Madhya Pradesh: West Madhya Pradesh from April 7-10
Additionally, hot and humid conditions are expected over Gujarat and Konkan & Goa from April 5 to April 10.
Above-Normal Temperatures Predicted for April-June:
The IMD has predicted above-normal temperatures across India from April to June, with an increase in the number of heatwave days. States such as Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh are likely to see a higher number of heatwave days. Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Odisha could face 10-11 heatwave days this season.
Rainfall Forecast:
Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal: Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds (40-50 km/h) expected at isolated locations on April 5. Heavy rainfall is also predicted in parts of Nilgiris, Coimbatore, and Salem.
South Peninsular India and Northeast: Isolated light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds are expected on April 5 and 6.
Maharashtra: Likely rainfall on April 5, accompanied by thunderstorms.
Assam and Meghalaya: Isolated hailstorms on April 5 and 6.
The IMD’s outlook for the coming days suggests continued extreme weather conditions, with the heatwave likely to impact daily life across several states.
