A 27-year-old woman from Uttam Nagar, Delhi, was found dead at her home last week, allegedly by suicide. Police sources have reported that the woman left behind a chilling message on the wall of her residence, written in Hindi: “Chhodna mat usko” (Don’t spare him). Authorities are now investigating the case, with suspicions that the woman may have taken her own life due to the harassment she faced from a former colleague and his family over a loan dispute.
The woman, identified as a lab assistant at a private school, had reportedly lent a sum of over ₹2 lakh to the man and his family for his mother’s medical treatment. According to her younger sister, who spoke to the police, despite repeated requests for repayment, the man and his relatives refused to return the money. The harassment reportedly escalated in recent weeks, with the woman allegedly being threatened by the family members, leaving her feeling distressed and vulnerable.
In addition to her work as a lab assistant, the woman had also served as a civil defense volunteer in the past. Her younger sister explained that the accused, a former colleague from the civil defense unit, had been evading repayment of the loan, which had caused significant strain on the woman’s mental and emotional well-being. The woman’s family believes that this ongoing harassment ultimately led to her tragic death.
In a two-page note found at the scene, suspected to have been written by the woman, she detailed her torment at the hands of the man and his family. She accused them of threatening her and causing immense distress after she repeatedly demanded the repayment of the loan. The message on the wall, along with the note, has led investigators to suspect that the woman’s suicide may have been a result of the prolonged harassment and financial dispute.
The woman’s body was discovered by her elder sister, 29, when she returned home on Saturday evening around 9 pm. Authorities were alerted immediately, and a case of abetment to suicide was registered under Section 108 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Uttam Nagar police station. Investigators are now focusing on the man and his family, who are currently on the run. Raids are being conducted to locate and arrest the accused.
The police have stated that they are actively working on the case and will continue their efforts to apprehend the individuals involved. The investigation has raised concerns about the rising issue of harassment related to financial disputes, particularly when it involves personal relationships and trust.
The woman’s tragic death has left her family in a state of shock and grief. Her sister added that their family is struggling to cope with the loss and is determined to seek justice for the woman, who they say was subjected to extreme mental and emotional distress. The case is being closely followed by the community, as it highlights the devastating impact that harassment, financial pressure, and unresolved conflicts can have on individuals’ mental health.
As investigations continue, the authorities are urging anyone with information about the whereabouts of the man and his family to come forward and assist with the probe.
