A joint operation by the Indian Army’s Rising Star Corps, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was initiated early Tuesday morning in Kathua’s Panjtirthi area following intelligence reports suggesting potential terrorist activity in the region. This operation comes just days after a violent gunfight in Kathua, which resulted in the deaths of two terrorists and four policemen, with several others, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police, injured.
Suspicious movement in the Panjtirthi area on Monday night led to an exchange of fire between security forces and suspected terrorists. In response, a full-scale search and destroy operation was launched the following morning. The Rising Star Corps confirmed the operation’s continuation through a post on X, stating that the security forces are working tirelessly to neutralize the threat.
Authorities believe that three Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists are currently trapped near the Panjtirthi temple in the Billawar area of Kathua. Aerial surveillance and sniffer dogs have been deployed to assist in the search efforts.
Deputy Inspector General Shiv Kumar Sharma provided an update on the situation, emphasizing that the operation will continue until all terrorists are neutralized. He urged residents, particularly those near the border, to report any suspicious activity.“
The operation is ongoing, and as long as there is even one terrorist left, Jammu and Kashmir Police will not back down,” said Sharma. “Our forces are committed to eradicating terrorism and ensuring the safety of Jammu and Kashmir.”
Sharma also expressed condolences over the loss of a soldier in the recent encounter. “The sacrifice of our brave jawans is deeply felt,” he stated. “However, our forces are highly trained, and their morale remains strong.”
In addition to the ongoing ground operation, security forces have detained six individuals following reports of suspicious movement in the area. These individuals are believed to be connected to the terrorists involved in the Kathua encounter.
Sharma also paid a visit to the family of the fallen soldier, honoring their sacrifice. “These brave personnel gave their lives to ensure the safety and security of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said. “We will continue to fight for the people, and we will never back down from our mission.”
The operation remains active as security forces work to secure the area and neutralize the terrorist threat.
