Actor Rhea Chakraborty’s lawyer, Satish Maneshinde, on Saturday (March 22, 2025), expressed gratitude to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for filing a closure report in the death case of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Maneshinde praised the CBI for thoroughly investigating the matter from all angles and for bringing the case to a close.
The CBI submitted its findings to a special court in Mumbai, which will now decide whether to accept the report or order further investigation. The case was originally transferred to the CBI after the Bihar police registered an abetment of suicide case based on a complaint filed by Rajput’s father, K K Singh.
Forensic experts at AIIMS, in their final medico-legal opinion, ruled out the claims of poisoning and strangulation that were raised during the investigation. The CBI also recorded statements from Rhea Chakraborty and others close to Rajput, along with collecting his medical records.
In a statement, Maneshinde criticized the “false narrative” spread on social media and in the media, pointing out that the public scrutiny during the pandemic led to innocent individuals being harassed. He emphasized the hardships Rhea Chakraborty faced, including being imprisoned for 27 days before being released on bail.
Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Shouvik Chakraborty, and several others were arrested in a drugs-related probe by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) linked to Rajput’s death. Rajput was found dead in his Mumbai apartment on June 14, 2020.
In his complaint to the Bihar police, Rajput’s father accused Rhea and her family of misappropriating his son’s funds, a claim that Rhea has consistently denied in interviews.
