In a chilling incident, the body of a young woman was found hanging from a jamun tree in the village of Sarayan Gulabray, located in the Inderpur police station, Ballia on Sunday. The woman, identified as the 20-year-old daughter of a local watchman, was found with both her hands tied behind her back, raising suspicion of foul play.
Early morning walkers spotted the body hanging from the tree and immediately informed the locals, causing panic in the village. Upon receiving the information, the police from Nagra police station arrived at the scene. The body was taken into custody after inquiries from nearby residents, and forensic experts collected evidence from the spot.
The woman, identified as Pooja Chauhan, was living alone at home as her parents had gone to Lucknow for medical treatment. Her mother, Sunita, had been ill, and they had left three days prior, leaving Pooja at home. The body was discovered in the vicinity of her residence, with her hands tied behind her, which suggests the possibility of a murder rather than a suicide.
The body was discovered at a considerable height from a branch of the jamun tree, and villagers gathered in large numbers once the news spread. Local police, led by Police Station Officer Kaushal Pathak, arrived at the scene with their team and, with the help of the villagers, brought the body down from the tree. They then informed the victim’s father, Dharmraj Chauhan, who was at the hospital with his wife.
Soon after, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Omveer Singh and Circle Officer (CO) Ashish Mishra arrived to inspect the scene and take statements from nearby residents. Forensic teams, along with surveillance and SWAT teams, began their investigation from multiple angles. According to SSP Omveer Singh, the police are awaiting the post-mortem report to determine whether the cause of death was murder or suicide.
The victim’s relatives have accused someone of murdering Pooja and then hanging her body from the tree to stage it as a suicide. Pooja’s aunt and maternal grandmother were visibly distraught upon receiving the news of the death, crying uncontrollably.
Pooja’s father, Dharmraj Chauhan, is a watchman at the local police station. The family had traveled to Lucknow for his wife’s treatment, leaving Pooja behind. Police have now formed four teams to investigate the murder case. Pooja’s relative, Chandan Chauhan from Jamui Pakdi, has filed a complaint against an unknown person regarding the incident.
Authorities are working to gather more details to piece together the circumstances surrounding Pooja Chauhan’s death, with the possibility of a planned murder being strongly suspected. Further investigation is ongoing, and police are hopeful that the post-mortem report will provide crucial information to help solve this case.
