In a tragic incident, a 27-year-old man from Rewa district, Madhya Pradesh, livestreamed his own death on March 16, sending shockwaves through the local community and raising serious questions about the dynamics within his family. Six days after the incident, the Madhya Pradesh police arrested the man’s wife and mother-in-law on charges of abetment to suicide.

The Tragic Livestream

The disturbing incident occurred in the Mehra village of Rewa, where the man, identified as a 27-year-old priest from Wardha, Gujarat, took his own life by hanging himself. Before ending his life, the man livestreamed the event on a social media platform, during which he accused his wife and mother-in-law of destroying his life and ruining his family.

In the video, the man’s last words expressed his frustration and emotional turmoil, blaming the two women for the distress that led to his suicide. The livestream, which quickly garnered attention online, was reportedly viewed by his wife, though she later denied watching it live.

Investigation and Arrests

Following the incident, Sirmour police launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the suicide. Police discovered that the social media account associated with the deceased’s wife had been one of the viewers of the livestream. However, the wife, aged 24, denied watching her husband’s death live, claiming that she had only seen the video after his death had already occurred.

Despite her denial, the police registered a case of unnatural death and proceeded with the arrests of both the man’s wife and mother-in-law on charges of abetment to suicide. According to Sirmour Police Station in-charge, JP Patel, the investigation revealed that the deceased had been living in Gujarat for his work as a priest but had returned home to Rewa about six months ago after suffering an injury to his leg in an accident.

The deceased man and his wife, who had been married for several years and had a six-month-old child, had reportedly been experiencing frequent marital disputes. At the time of his death, the wife was living at her mother’s house. On the day of the tragedy, the man had gone to his mother-in-law’s house to bring his wife back. However, after a heated argument, he returned home alone. Soon after, he took the drastic step of livestreaming his suicide.

Marital Strain and Emotional Turmoil

The emotional distress that led to the suicide appeared to be rooted in ongoing marital issues between the man and his wife. According to the police, the couple had been frequently fighting, which added to the man’s mental strain. The tragic culmination of these tensions was broadcast live to an unsuspecting online audience, and the incident has left many questioning the role of family dynamics in such extreme outcomes.

A Similar Case in Uttar Pradesh

This incident is not an isolated case. Just last month, a similar tragedy occurred in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, where a 30-year-old man also took his life after leaving behind a video blaming his wife for pushing him to take such an extreme step. The video went viral, with the man urging authorities to think about the mental health struggles of men.

In that case, the deceased’s father filed a police complaint against the wife, but she countered the claims, alleging that her husband had been abusive, especially when intoxicated. She also mentioned that she had tried to stop him during a previous suicide attempt. The video sparked a debate on social media about the mental health of men and the pressures they face in relationships.

A Growing Conversation About Mental Health

The tragic suicides and the videos left behind by the victims have ignited a broader conversation about mental health, especially for men. These incidents highlight the psychological toll of relationship struggles, emotional distress, and the pressures of modern life. Social media has become a new outlet for people in distress, but it has also become a platform for publicizing private pain, raising concerns about the responsibility of both individuals and online platforms.

The investigation into the Rewa suicide case is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the full extent of the role played by the wife and mother-in-law in the events leading to the man’s death.
