Congress leader and senior politician Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi on Thursday, February 20. Reports indicate that the 78-year-old leader is in stable condition and is expected to be discharged by Friday.

Though the exact time of her admission remains unclear, according to information a team of doctors is closely monitoring her health. Dr. Ajay Swaroop, Chairman of the Board of Management at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, confirmed that Gandhi was admitted for an abdomen-related issue. However, he assured there is no major health concern, and she will likely be discharged soon.

In a statement, the hospital mentioned that Gandhi underwent a routine check-up and is now stable, remaining under observation.

Sonia Gandhi’s Last Public Appearance

The last time Sonia Gandhi was seen in public was earlier this month during the Parliament’s budget session. On February 13, she was seen outside the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of Parliament, where she made her first intervention of the session during the Zero Hour. She raised concerns about the beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) being identified based on the outdated 2011 Census data rather than the latest population figures. Additionally, she urged the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to conduct a new population census as soon as possible.

Her hospitalization comes as the Congress party continues to engage in political discussions both within and outside Parliament.
