YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, also known as BeerBiceps, and comedian Samay Raina have received summons from the Mumbai Police following controversial remarks made by Allahbadia on the reality show India’s Got Latent, as reported by Times Now. Both have been asked to report to the police for questioning.
In addition to this, police complaints have been lodged in Mumbai and Guwahati against Allahbadia and other participants of the episode, including Raina, YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani, influencer Apoorva Makhija, and comedian Jaspreet Singh. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that an FIR has been filed against the group, accusing them of promoting obscenity and engaging in a sexually explicit discussion on the show.
Despite Allahbadia issuing a public apology, the controversy has intensified, evolving into a significant legal and political issue. Multiple FIRs have been filed, and the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology (I-T) is reportedly considering summoning Allahbadia to answer questions about his remarks.
Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has announced that she will raise the issue in the committee, condemning the use of abusive language under the guise of comedy content. She stressed that having a platform does not give anyone the right to make inappropriate statements, especially when such figures hold influence over audiences, including political leaders like the Prime Minister.
The incident has sparked widespread discussions around the ethics of digital content and the responsibility of social media influencers. Hashtags like #BoycottRanveerAllahbadia and #UnfollowBeerBiceps have trended on social media, with users calling for stricter regulations on online content.
The growing scrutiny on digital creators has now reached the political arena, with the involvement of a parliamentary panel emphasizing the seriousness of the matter. As legal and political pressures continue to mount, it remains to be seen how this controversy will evolve and what consequences Allahbadia and other influencers involved may face in the future.
