As the BJP looks set to form a government in Delhi for the first time in over 26 years, Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal has taken a subtle jab at the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). On Saturday, Maliwal posted on X, “Even Ravan’s arrogance couldn’t save him…” alongside a painting depicting the infamous scene of Draupadi’s cheer-haran from the Mahabharata, where the Pandavas lose a bet to their cousins, the Kauravas.

Maliwal, who had a fallout with Arvind Kejriwal and the AAP last year, has been an outspoken critic of the party. The fallout followed an incident where she claimed to have been mistreated by Kejriwal’s personal secretary when she visited him at his residence. Since then, she has regularly criticized Kejriwal, accusing him of failing to fulfill his promises to the people of Delhi.
In late January, Maliwal made headlines when she was detained by the police after dumping three mini-truckloads of garbage outside Kejriwal’s residence in protest. She also visited Vikaspuri, where she highlighted the severe waste management issues affecting residents’ health and hygiene.
Meanwhile, the latest Election Commission trends show the BJP on track to win 4 seats and lead in 45 of the 70 Delhi Assembly seats. The AAP has secured 2 seats so far and is leading in 21.As the results poured in, BJP supporters celebrated outside the party’s Delhi headquarters, waving flags, dancing to the beats of ‘dhol’, and smearing each other with saffron-colored powder in jubilation.
With the BJP poised for a significant victory, Delhi politics is witnessing a major shift after years of AAP dominance.
