Delhi Exit Polls: BJP In, AAP Out – How Accurate Were the Predictions?

By The Sampadak Express

In a historic turn of events, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has emerged victorious in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, achieving a resounding victory over the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). This marks the BJP’s return to power in Delhi after a 27-year hiatus. The party has decisively defeated the ruling AAP, with the final tally showing the BJP securing 47 seats, far surpassing its previous low points in the capital.

As anticipated by most exit polls, the BJP was able to wrest control from the AAP, which had held power in Delhi for over a decade. Despite aggressive campaigning, AAP failed to secure a third consecutive term in office. The Congress party, which had been hoping for a comeback, once again failed to make any significant impact, securing no seats in the Delhi Assembly for the third consecutive election cycle.

Kejriwal Concedes Defeat, Vows to Support Future Growth of Delhi

Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the AAP, conceded defeat in a video message, acknowledging the will of the people and offering his congratulations to the BJP. Kejriwal, who also lost in the New Delhi constituency to BJP, stated, “We accept the mandate of the people with great humility. I congratulate the BJP for this victory and I hope they will fulfil all the promises for which people have voted for them.”

While acknowledging the loss, Kejriwal reiterated his commitment to working for the development of Delhi in the future and assured that the AAP would continue to play an active role in shaping the city’s future.

Congress Faces Another Setback

Congress, which has been out of power in Delhi since 2015, faced yet another crushing defeat, with the party failing to win a single seat. The party’s performance marked the third consecutive election where Congress has failed to secure representation in the Delhi Assembly. In a post-election statement, Congress spokesperson Jairam Ramesh tried to put a brave face on the defeat, claiming that despite not being present in the assembly, the party still held a significant presence in Delhi. He added, “There will be a Congress government in 2030.”

PM Modi Celebrates Victory, Vows for All-Round Development

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing gratitude to the people of Delhi for their overwhelming support, celebrated the BJP’s triumph. In a message posted on social media platform X, PM Modi said, “People’s power is supreme! Development and good governance have won. We guarantee that we will leave no stone unturned to ensure the all-round development of Delhi and to make the lives of its people better. Along with this, we will also ensure that Delhi plays an important role in building a developed India.”

PM Modi’s statement emphasized the BJP’s commitment to furthering the development agenda and ensuring good governance for the people of Delhi. The BJP’s return to power in Delhi is seen as a major political win, not only for the party but also for the vision of Prime Minister Modi’s governance model.

Delhi Election Results: BJP Makes a Stunning Comeback

In a dramatic turnaround, the BJP secured a total of 47 seats in the final round of counting, marking a historic victory after 27 years of absence from power in the Delhi Assembly. Despite the AAP’s dominance over the past decade, the BJP managed to achieve a commanding win, ensuring its return to governance.

AAP, which had hoped to secure a third consecutive victory, fell short and was only able to secure a significantly lower number of seats than expected. The AAP’s tally is expected to be much lower than the range of 32-37 seats predicted by some exit polls.

Congress, on the other hand, failed to secure any representation, continuing its downward trajectory in Delhi politics. With this, the party’s hopes of a revival in Delhi have been further dashed.

Exit Poll Predictions: A Near-Perfect Match with Final Results

The results of the Delhi Assembly election closely mirrored the predictions made by various exit polls conducted ahead of the election. Most exit polls predicted that the BJP would emerge as the clear victor, with predictions ranging from 21 to 61 seats. The Axis My India poll, for example, forecasted that the BJP would secure between 45 and 55 seats, with AAP expected to win between 15 and 25 seats. Other prominent pollsters such as CNX and Today’s Chanakya predicted similar outcomes, with the BJP expected to secure around 49 to 61 seats.

Interestingly, P-Marq was the only pollster to offer a more optimistic outlook for the AAP, predicting the party would win 39 to 44 seats. However, most other exit polls placed the AAP’s tally much lower, between 10 and 18 seats.

For Congress, every exit poll predicted a repeat of the party’s previous dismal performance, with no seats being secured in the assembly. This marks the third consecutive defeat for the Congress in the Delhi Assembly elections.

A New Chapter in Delhi’s Political Landscape

With the BJP’s historic victory, Delhi’s political landscape has shifted significantly. The AAP’s decade-long reign has ended, and the BJP has reclaimed control of the capital after 27 years. As PM Modi promised, the party now faces the challenge of delivering on its promises of development, governance, and a better quality of life for the people of Delhi.

The results not only reaffirmed the BJP’s growing influence in the national capital but also set the stage for its continued dominance in Delhi politics. For AAP, the loss signifies the end of an era, while Congress must regroup in the wake of its continued decline in Delhi. The focus now shifts to how the BJP plans to govern the city and deliver on its development agenda. The next few years will likely be crucial in shaping the political future of Delhi and the BJP’s broader national aspirations.
