February 1, 2025: The oil marketing companies (OMCs) have announced a revision in the prices of commercial LPG gas cylinders, effective from today, February 1. The price of a 19-kg commercial LPG gas cylinder has been reduced by Rs 7 across various cities. This reduction follows the monthly revision in the prices of LPG, aligned with the benchmark international prices.

Price Reduction for Commercial LPG:

In the national capital, Delhi, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder now stands at Rs 1,797, down from Rs 1,804. This price reduction of Rs 7 is part of the ongoing adjustments that are made on the first of each month based on global market conditions and foreign exchange rates. This is the second price cut in the last two months, following a reduction of Rs 14.5 in the January 1 revision.

Other cities have also seen similar price reductions:

In Kolkata, the cost of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has decreased from Rs 1,911 to Rs 1,907.

In Mumbai, the price now stands at Rs 1,749.50, a decrease from Rs 1,756.

In Chennai, the commercial LPG cylinder is now priced at Rs 1,959.50, maintaining a stable price for the city.

These revisions in the prices of commercial LPG reflect the fluctuations in global LPG rates and adjustments made by state-owned fuel retailers like Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL).

No Change in Domestic LPG Prices:

Despite the reduction in commercial LPG prices, the rates of domestic cooking gas cylinders, which are used for household purposes, remain unchanged for the time being. The price of a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi remains at Rs 803, the same as in previous months. Similarly, the prices across other major cities are as follows:

In Lucknow, the 14.2-kg cylinder costs Rs 840.50.

In Mumbai, the price is Rs 802.50.

In Chennai, it is Rs 818.50.

In Kolkata, the cost is Rs 829.

ATF Prices Hiked by 5.6%:

While commercial LPG prices have decreased, the price of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF), also known as jet fuel, has been increased by a significant 5.6%. The new price for ATF in Delhi has been raised to Rs 95,533.72 per kilolitre, an increase of Rs 5,078.25 from the previous price of Rs 90,455.47 per kilolitre. This hike follows a 1.5% reduction in prices in the previous revision on January 1, 2024. However, over the past several months, ATF prices had been adjusted upward multiple times, reflecting global oil price trends.

In Mumbai, the price of ATF has been raised to Rs 89,318.90 per kilolitre from Rs 84,511.93 previously.

Fuel Price Trends:

In terms of retail fuel prices, the cost of petrol and diesel has remained stable for several months. Despite international fluctuations in oil prices, the retail rates for petrol and diesel in Delhi continue to be frozen at Rs 94.72 per litre and Rs 87.62 per litre, respectively. Petrol prices were last reduced by Rs 2 per litre in mid-March 2024 ahead of the general elections.

These adjustments in LPG and ATF prices highlight the impact of global market dynamics and the policies adopted by state-owned fuel companies to maintain price stability for consumers. The reduction in commercial LPG prices, though modest, provides some relief to businesses, including restaurants and hotels, that depend on this fuel. However, with the price hike in ATF, airlines and other aviation-related businesses may face higher operational costs.

The next revision in prices of commercial LPG and ATF will occur on March 1, 2025, with further changes expected based on global market trends and currency exchange rates.
