A shocking and disturbing incident has been reported from Assam’s Cachar district, where a 28-year-old driver barged into his neighbor’s house, raped a 30-year-old woman in front of her two children, and poured a chemical substance believed to be acid on her body before fleeing the scene.
Victim Battles for Life
The woman is currently battling for her life at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH), where she is undergoing treatment for her injuries. The incident occurred on January 22, and a case was registered on January 23 based on the information provided by the victim’s eldest child, a six-year-old boy.
Traumatized Children
The victim’s husband, who was not at home when the incident took place, said that his two children saw the entire torture and are also traumatized. He shared details of the case, saying that he wants justice for his wife and the arrest of the man who destroyed their lives.
Previous Incident
The husband revealed that the suspect had previously tried to force his way into their home on January 21 evening, while he was away, and asked his wife to share her phone number. She refused and told him to leave, but the suspect threatened to harm her.
Incident Unfolds
On January 22, when the husband returned home, he found his wife on the floor, with her mouth, hands, and feet tied, and an acid-like substance on her body. He rushed her to a nearby government hospital, but the doctors asked him to take her to SMCH. The police were informed, but they asked the husband to visit the police station the next day.
FIR Lodged
On January 23, the husband lodged a First Information Report (FIR) under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Dholai police station. The police are currently making efforts to trace the accused, who is absconding.
Accused’s History
The victim’s husband alleged that the accused had a history of misbehaving with women in the area, targeting married women, and asking them to share their phone numbers. He also wrote objectionable things about women, and despite local people intervening, he did not stop his activities.
Investigation Underway
The police are investigating the incident, and the SMCH superintendent declined to comment on the details of the victim’s injuries. The victim’s statement will be recorded after consultation with the doctors, and the police may add more provisions to the case once they receive the test reports from SMCH.
This horrific incident has sent shockwaves across the region, and the authorities must take swift and severe action against the perpetrator to ensure justice for the victim and her family.
