Jalgaon Train Accident: 11 Dead, 5 Injured After Passengers Exit Pushpak Express

Date:

A devastating rail accident in Jalgaon district of Maharashtra has claimed the lives of 11 passengers and left five others injured. The incident occurred when passengers of the Lucknow-Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Pushpak Express exited the train and were struck by the Karnataka Express, which was traveling in the opposite direction.

Cause of the Accident

According to officials, the tragic mishap was triggered by a chain-pulling incident aboard the Pushpak Express, which occurred around 5 pm on January 22, between Maheji and Pardhade stations. A rumour about a fire on the train led to the chain being pulled, causing the train to halt. After the train stopped, some passengers exited the train, unaware that the Karnataka Express was approaching on an adjacent track.

Central Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Swapnil Kumar Leela, confirmed the sequence of events, adding that the Railway’s Accident Relief Medical Van has been dispatched from Bhusawal to assist with the rescue operation. “We have also sought help from nearby hospitals, and emergency services are actively responding,” Leela said in a video statement.

Rescue Operations Underway

Nashik Divisional Commissioner Praveen Gedam provided updates, stating that local authorities, including the Additional SP, Collector, and other officials, were en route to the site. “Eight ambulances have already reached the location, and additional rescue teams are on standby. Railway ambulances are being rushed to the scene as well,” Gedam confirmed.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of lives in the tragic accident. “The tragic incident near Pachora in Jalgaon district is deeply distressing. I pay my heartfelt tributes to those who lost their lives,” he wrote on X. Fadnavis further stated that Minister Girish Mahajan, along with the Superintendent of Police and District Collector, had reached the accident site and were coordinating the rescue efforts.

Immediate Aid for the Injured

Fadnavis assured that all necessary measures were being taken for the treatment of the injured. “The general hospital and nearby private hospitals have been prepared to handle the emergency. Emergency equipment, including glass cutters and floodlights, has also been kept ready,” he said. The situation is being closely monitored, with district authorities ensuring swift response and care for those affected.

As of now, the Karnataka Express has resumed its journey, while the Pushpak Express will continue once the injured passengers are provided with medical attention. Authorities are continuing to assess the situation and provide necessary assistance to the victims and their families.

This tragic accident highlights the dangers of unverified information and the importance of safety measures on trains. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
