A devastating rail accident in Jalgaon district of Maharashtra has claimed the lives of 11 passengers and left five others injured. The incident occurred when passengers of the Lucknow-Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Pushpak Express exited the train and were struck by the Karnataka Express, which was traveling in the opposite direction.
Cause of the Accident
According to officials, the tragic mishap was triggered by a chain-pulling incident aboard the Pushpak Express, which occurred around 5 pm on January 22, between Maheji and Pardhade stations. A rumour about a fire on the train led to the chain being pulled, causing the train to halt. After the train stopped, some passengers exited the train, unaware that the Karnataka Express was approaching on an adjacent track.

Central Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Swapnil Kumar Leela, confirmed the sequence of events, adding that the Railway’s Accident Relief Medical Van has been dispatched from Bhusawal to assist with the rescue operation. “We have also sought help from nearby hospitals, and emergency services are actively responding,” Leela said in a video statement.
