Saif Ali Khan was attacked and stabbed six times by an intruder who broke into his Mumbai residence on January 16. The incident occurred around 2:30 am when the actor was asleep. The intruder attempted to rob the house, and a scuffle ensued when Saif confronted him. The assailant then stabbed the actor multiple times before fleeing the scene.
The actor, who suffered deep stab wounds near his spine, was immediately rushed to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital for emergency treatment. A team of doctors led by neurosurgeon Dr. Nitin Dange and cosmetic surgeon Dr. Leena Jain performed a 2.5-hour neurosurgery on Saif. The actor is currently undergoing plastic surgery, and the hospital confirmed that he is now out of danger. A further report on his condition is awaited.
The Mumbai Police have filed an FIR at Bandra Police Station and are questioning three staff members from Saif’s household. In addition, the Mumbai Crime Branch has taken over the investigation, forming seven teams to track down the assailant. They are currently reviewing CCTV footage and expanding their search to different parts of Mumbai and beyond.
An official statement from Saif Ali Khan’s team confirmed the attempted burglary, stating, “Mr. Saif Ali Khan is in the hospital undergoing surgery. We request the media and fans to be patient as the police investigation is ongoing. We will provide updates when possible.”
Kareena Kapoor Khan’s team also issued a statement, reassuring the public that the rest of the family is safe. It read, “Saif had an injury to his arm and is undergoing treatment. The rest of the family is fine, and we ask the media to refrain from further speculation as the police continue their investigation.”
Dr. Niraj Uttamani, the COO of Lilavati Hospital, shared that Saif was brought in at around 3:30 am following the attack. The actor’s family had recently returned to Mumbai after spending the New Year holidays in Switzerland.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are actively working to identify and apprehend the suspect.
